For our first ever Behind The Brand, we sat down with Milly.
Let’s get right into it. For those that may not know, who are you, what do you do and where are you from?
I am Milly, I manage talent, build brands, run an art gallery, and middleman a lot of other different things… I am from Baltimore, MD.
How did you discover your passion?
My first passion was music, started out wanting to be a rapper at the age of 12. Then, I wanted to learn/get into the music business and decided that I didn’t want to rap anymore (at the age of 25), for many different reasons and I always loved helping people so I figured I’d be great behind the scenes, helping artists. Shortly after that, I also fell in love with art and the rest is history.
How many hours do you put into your craft a week?
Between 100-150, I guess…
*To put that into perspective for you guys, there are only 168 hours in a week.
How many years have you been chipping away at your dreams?
Do you have a regular day job?
Was quitting your job a tough decision, how did you come to that point of quitting?
I was just tired of working for people. I needed more time to hustle and make these dreams a reality.
What is a typical day for yourself?
Wake up and do whatever I want (lol sike, kinda) everyday is a hustle though. Entrepreneurship is crazy! I would love to just sit on my computer all day, if I could.
Do you find it difficult to balance chasing your dreams and having a personal life?
Hell yeah, but luckily I love what I’m doing and this is life, gotta make sacrifices.
How do you balance the two?
I make time when I can. It’s not easy at all, but I make the best of it and don’t complain.
How do you stay relevant in such a fast paced industry?
I just stay consistent and keep presenting fresh ideas to the world.
Is social media stressful at times?
Very, very stressful
What is your ultimate career goal?
Have multiple galleries around the world, make billions, and help many people.
Are there any projects you are currently working on that you can share with us?
This Mini Hip-Hop Museum, so important. And a new artist I’m helping out, her name is ‘Miss Kam‘ ..I’m super excited about her!
What is your most memorable moment so far?
Opening ‘The Sand Gallery‘ and inspiring so many people.
Have you ever thought about giving up, if so, how did you overcome that?
A few times but I quickly snap out of it lol. I didn’t come this far to give up, there’re people counting on me!
Is there anything that you went through that you have not shared with the world yet?
Hmmm… I don’t think so, I’m an open book.
Do you think branding is important when trying to obtain success?
*We try telling you guys this…
Alright, one last question. Can we finally get your real name?
Mark Shawn Clarke Jr.
